The Project

An artist came to me with 10 songs—each one deeply personal. Some were bedroom recordings with minimal instruments; others had full arrangements with strings, synths, and layered vocals.

The Challenge

The biggest challenge wasn’t technical. It was about getting out of the way. The songs were strong, and the artist’s voice was the center. My job was to make each element serve the song without overshadowing the vocal performance.

Approach

  • Created a consistent sonic palette across all 10 tracks while respecting each song’s unique arrangement
  • Used restraint with effects—subtle compression and EQ rather than heavy processing
  • Built space around the vocals so they could breathe
  • Ensured clarity in the low end without losing warmth

Feedback

The artist said the final mixes felt “both professional and personal”—that the production enhanced the songs without changing their character. That’s exactly what we aimed for.
